Agadir, sunshine all year round

Rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, Agadir is a modern, laid-back seaside resort bathed in more than 300 days of sun a year. Its great crescent bay — safe and family-friendly — makes an ideal base for mixing relaxation, sport and day trips.

When to go

The climate stays mild all year. For the beach, spring and summer are perfect; for surfing, October to April brings the best Atlantic swells.

The bay and the beach

Six kilometres of golden sand line the town: ideal for walking, cycling, swimming and water sports. The promenade is lined with cafés and restaurants facing the ocean, glorious at sunset.

In town

• The marina: restaurants, terraces and waterside strolls.
• Souk El Had: one of Morocco's largest markets — spices, crafts and local produce.
• Agadir Oufella Kasbah: rebuilt on the heights, with a magnificent panorama over the bay (also reachable by cable car).
• The Valley of the Birds and the craft medina round out the visit; for families, Crocoparc delights the kids.

Surf and nature nearby

• Taghazout, about 20 minutes away, is Morocco's surf capital: Anchor Point for long waves, Panorama for beginners, Killer Point for the more experienced.
• Tamraght and its bohemian feel extend the coastline.
• Paradise Valley, a palm-lined gorge with turquoise rock pools, is perfect for swimming and gentle hiking.
• Nature lovers can visit Souss-Massa National Park.

Flavours

Head to the port for the grilled catch of the day, and taste the region's specialties: amlou (almond, honey and argan oil) and argan oil in all its forms.

Day trips

Paradise Valley, Taghazout, the Imouzzer waterfalls and the Massa estuary are all easy day trips, ideally by car.

Practical tips

Agadir is known to be safe and welcoming, perfect for families. A rental car makes escapes to Taghazout and the hinterland easy.
